Streamin’ Demon is a product of Bowman Engineering. This page explains what data we collect when you use the streamindemon.com website, purchase a license, or run the encoder software, and how we use it.
1. What we collect
When you visit the website
Our web server records standard request information — IP address, user-agent, requested URL, timestamp — in its access log for operational and security purposes (rate-limiting, abuse investigation). We do not run third-party analytics, tracking pixels, or advertising networks on this site. The site does not set tracking cookies. WordPress sets a session cookie only after a successful admin login, and admin logins are restricted to Bowman Engineering staff.
When you purchase a license
Payments are processed by PayPal. We do not see, store, or have access to your credit card or bank details. From PayPal we receive: your name, email address, and the PayPal transaction ID. We use that information to issue your license key, deliver it by email, and process refunds or chargebacks. PayPal’s own privacy practices apply to the payment itself — see paypal.com/us/legalhub/privacy-full.
When you activate or run the encoder
The Streamin’ Demon encoder communicates with our license server (api.streamindemon.com) to validate your license. Each validation transmits:
- your license key,
- a machine identifier — a one-way hash of your computer name and Windows username (we cannot reverse it back to either value),
- the IP address the request came from (recorded automatically by the server).
We use this to confirm the key is valid, enforce one-machine-at-a-time activation per license, and track when your installation last checked in. The encoder also sends a periodic “heartbeat” containing process metrics — memory use, thread count, uptime, version, and a station name you choose during installation. The heartbeat exists so we can spot a station that has gone offline or is about to crash before you call support; it does not contain audio, listener data, automation logs, or any content flowing through your stream.
When you contact us
Email you send to bowmanengineering@gmail.com is read by Bowman Engineering staff. We retain support correspondence so we can refer back to it on follow-up questions.
2. What we do not collect
- We do not record, store, or transmit the audio your encoder is processing.
- We do not see your listener counts, listener IPs, or any metadata about who is tuned in.
- We do not collect content of “now playing” tracks beyond what you intentionally route through your CDN.
- We do not sell, trade, or share customer data with marketers, data brokers, or any third party for their own purposes.
3. Third parties we rely on
- PayPal — payment processing.
- Amazon Web Services — site hosting (Lightsail), license-server hosting, transactional email (SES) for license-key delivery, DNS (Route 53). Data they handle on our behalf is governed by AWS’s data-processing terms.
- Anthropic — when you use AI-assisted features inside the encoder, prompts are forwarded to Anthropic’s Claude API through our license server. We do not retain prompts after forwarding.
- SSL.com — code-signing certificate for the installer. They do not receive any customer data.
4. How long we keep things
- License records are kept while the license is active and for up to two years after revocation, for refund/chargeback resolution.
- Heartbeat data is rolling — we keep the most recent entry per station, not a long history.
- Web access logs roll over after 30 days.
- Email correspondence is retained at Bowman Engineering’s discretion, typically until obsolete.
5. Your choices
- Deactivate your license. Use the Deactivate button in the encoder’s SoothSettings page to release the machine binding. This clears the machine identifier on our server.
- Request deletion. Email bowmanengineering@gmail.com from the address associated with your purchase and ask for your records to be deleted. We’ll confirm and complete deletion within 30 days. Note that we may retain minimal records required for tax and refund-window obligations.
- Request a copy. Email us and we’ll send you what we have on file.
6. Security
Traffic to streamindemon.com, api.streamindemon.com, and admin.streamindemon.com is encrypted with TLS. License keys are stored in a database accessible only to Bowman Engineering staff. AWS infrastructure access is restricted by IAM and SSH keys. We do not store credit-card or bank data of any kind.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change what data we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and bump the “Last updated” date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the encoder’s release notes.
